Safe Space
Gentle child counselling with a caring touch and therapy dog companion
Parent FAQ – Limestone Coast Counselling
Why should I consider counselling for my child?
Counselling can help children manage anxiety, understand and regulate their emotions, cope with changes, and build confidence. It provides a safe, supportive space for them to express themselves and learn skills to navigate challenges.
What types of issues do you work with?
I support children and adolescents with:
Anxiety and worries
Emotional regulation and big feelings
Family separation and relationship changes
Low self-esteem or self-blame
Social and emotional challenges
Neurodivergence, including autism and ADHD
What will happen in a counselling session?
Sessions are tailored to your child’s age, needs, and strengths. Some sessions focus on skill-building, others on exploring feelings and experiences. Techniques may include play-based strategies, visual tools, mindfulness, or regulation skills.
Parents are involved as needed to support the child and reinforce skills at home.
Do I need to prepare my child before their first session?
No special preparation is needed. Children are guided gently into the session at their own pace. You may briefly explain that counselling is a safe place to talk about feelings and learn ways to feel better.
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 50–60 minutes for children, with flexibility based on age and needs.
What is your approach?
I use an integrative, evidence-based approach, drawing on CBT, Schema Therapy, and acceptance-based strategies. Sessions are collaborative, child-centred, and focused on building resilience and skills while strengthening children’s natural abilities.
Do you work with neurodivergent children?
Yes. I have experience working with children on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent profiles. Therapy is adapted to each child’s communication style, sensory needs, and pace.
What is your therapy dog Dobby’s role?
Dobby, my toy cavoodle, provides a calm and comforting presence. He can help reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, and make sessions feel less intimidating. Interaction is always optional and child-led.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I currently offer online sessions as well as in-person appointments from my private office.
What are your fees?
Standard session rate: $140
Reduced rate with a concession card or MHCP: $90
I also accept NDIS clients (self-managed and plan-managed).
Can I book a free consultation?
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation for parents to ask questions, learn about my approach, and see if counselling feels right. This is not a therapy session.
How do I know if counselling is right for my child?
If your child is experiencing ongoing anxiety, emotional challenges, difficulty coping with change, or struggles socially or at school, counselling can be beneficial. A brief consultation can help you determine fit and next steps.
How do I get started?
You can book a session online or contact me via email or phone to arrange your free consultation.
